The Amax icon on your PC
What the Amax Health Agent on your recorder or PC does, what it sends, and what it never collects.
If Amax looks after your CCTV recorder, video management server or another PC, you'll see the Amax logo in the system tray, next to the clock. That's the Amax Health Agent.
What it's for
It watches the computer for problems that could stop your security system working, so Amax can fix them, often before you notice. For example:
- a hard disk that is starting to fail
- the video recording software (Avigilon, Axis Camera Station or Milestone XProtect) stopping
- Windows updates failing, or a restart that is overdue
- a disk running out of space
- the computer going offline
When it finds something, Amax gets a support ticket automatically.
The coloured dot
| Dot | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ๐ข Green | All OK. The PC is checking in with Amax normally. |
| ๐ Amber | Amax has been told about an issue, or it can't reach Amax right now (it keeps trying). |
| ๐ด Red | Amax has been told about a serious issue, or the agent isn't running. |
Click the icon to open its window. It shows:
- the current issues
- exactly what has been reported to Amax
- when it last checked in
From the window you can also report a problem.
What it sends โ and what it never does
It sends: a short check-in every few minutes (computer name, Windows version, uptime, CPU, memory and disk space), plus a short description of any problem it finds.
It never:
- reads your documents, emails, browsing history or passwords
- looks at or copies camera footage
- records your screen or keystrokes
- lets anyone control the PC remotely, or run programs on it
- installs anything except its own updates, and those must carry Amax's digital signature
Remote help from Amax is a separate app, Amax Remote Support, which only runs if you start it or agree to install it, and which you can remove at any time: see Remote support.
Can I close it?
Yes. Close this icon in its menu hides it until you next sign in. Monitoring carries on in the background as the Windows service "Amax Health Agent". To remove it completely, use Settings โ Apps โ Installed apps โ Amax Health Agent, or ask Amax. If you do, Amax will no longer be alerted to problems on that PC.
